The Trail Ambassador Program is a volunteer position for trail enthusiasts who wish to contribute to the community & TART Trails by educating & assisting trail users.

Their  objective is to create a community of members to volunteer and become an active voice in representing TART Trails Inc.

  • The goal is to create & maintain sustainable, open, safe and fun trails for all users.
  • Educate others.
  • Assist trail users for a more enjoyable experience.
  • Promote the safe, responsible & enjoyable use of the trails.
  • Have fun.

The Trail Ambassadors duties are

  • Represent TART positively & exemplify proper trail etiquette
  • Assist in trail maintenance & hazard reporting
  • Maintain & report logs in a timely fashion
  • Inform, assist, and educate
  • Provide information to trail users (regulations, directions, mileage to destination, etc.)
  • Provide mechanical assistance & assist in emergency situations to the limit of your ability
  • Enjoy Yourself

There are four types of Trail Ambassadors:

Roaming Ambassadors

  • Uses the trail frequently
  • Willing to represent TART while out on the trails
  • Assist trail users when necessary
  • Answer questions from other trail users
  • Report maintenance issues
  • Present a “watchful eye” along the trail

Stationary Ambassadors

  • Represent TART at open houses to greet, inform, assist, and educate users of the TART Trails
  • Encourage trail users to support TART through volunteering, membership, and/or financial support
  • Obtain feedback through TART surveys and sign-up sheets

Trail Maintenance Ambassadors

  • Check specific sections of the trails for maintenance issues/concerns
  • Each trail section will have a site specific maintenance checklist
  • Inspect the trail & signing for safety and functionality
  • Check for trail hazards: damaged-missing signs/benches/pavement markings/bridge conditions
  • Ensure “clear vision areas” at all driveway & road crossings
  • Trailheads checked for cleanliness
  • Report vandalism
  • Some small problems may be fixed on site – i.e. downed limbs, debris on trail, litter, etc.

Program/Educational Ambassadors

  • Offer a useful service to TART users & members, such as:
  • A trail user who wants to start a running group, ski group, walking group, etc
  • A birder who can lead a hike on the trails
  • Limited only by the imagination
  • All program/educational outings must be approved and coordinated through the TART office.

All TART Trail Ambassadors

  • Report total on-trail hours
  • Exemplify proper trail etiquette
  • “Talk TART” with trail users
  • Wear the Trail Ambassador approved identification/clothing
  • Enforce trail guidelines
